CreditSmart® is a financial education curriculum and consumer outreach initiative developed by Freddie Mac in collaboration with a number of multicultural groups. It is often delivered in workshops conducted by nonprofits, housing counselors, churches, and community-based organizations. It is designed to help consumers build and maintain better credit, make sound financial decisions, and understand the steps to successful homeownership. CreditSmart increases consumers' financial understanding by teaching them life-long money management skills and showing them how to avoid costly mistakes.
To prepare you to attend our Home Buyers Educational Seminars, we will enroll you in the Credit Smart Program (Fannie Mae). This program can help you with a variety of issues, including:
- Creating a budget so you can save for a home purchase
- How to contact creditors about disputed collection accounts
Some people can resolve their credit challenges in a few months. Others might even take a few years. The important thing to know is that the HOC is here to help you. We believe owning a home is within the reach of almost everybody. Our job is to keep you motivated and to provide you with the tools you need to successfully purchase a home.

EDUCATION COURSES
Most people must have a solid credit history before they can successfully apply for a mortgage loan. Our Home Buyer Readiness Training can help you get on the right track. The HOC's course is recognized as the best in Baton Rouge. Also, you must graduate from a city-approved course to obtain assistance from the City Parish when purchasing a home. The HOC is the only provider of these services that has a contract with City-Parish of East Baton Rouge. Through the HOC's seminars, you will also learn about the different kinds of loan products and financial assistance that might be available to you. We will give you the valuable tools you need to make informed decisions once you are ready to buy a home.
